I elevate ACME #19 above his other work because it felt like something that had built on all his previous comics and added layers of nuance and complexity. The character of Woody’s lover may be my all-time favorite of Ware’s, a truly tragic and disturbed woman whose pain Woody was completely oblivious to. I don’t think Ware was capable of writing such a character ten years ago....
