Oh, God, Do I Know What He Means
“You’ve passed through an unfortunate period of rejecting things your adolescent brain thinks aren’t appropriately ‘sophisticated’ and then you come back around and realize that none of that fucking matters and your standards were mostly specious. Meanwhile you’ve made an ass of yourself rejecting all this great stuff.”—Dan Nadel

Tumblarity
There used to be this thing that nobody knew what the fuck it was, and now that thing is nowhere to be found.  But, there are random pictures for you to click and mostly be disappointed by.  I am a jerk.

Metal Is A Conductor Of Heat
“Ow, shit! … Apparently, when you put hot water in a tin can, the can gets really hot.” “Metal is a conductor of heat.” ”Thank you, Bill Nye.”

“Be careful out there.”
“Why did he tell us to be careful?” “Yeah, what are we supposed to be careful of?” “What’s going on out there?” “I don’t like the sound of this.…” “EVERYBODY PANIC!”

Invertebrate Comics Not Extinct Yet
“[I]ndy folks still keep releasing pamphlets anyways. Why? I like to think it’s cuz they are easier to store than mini-comics.”—Frank Santoro (who else?)

lê thi diem thúy, author of a very good book, The Gangster We Are All Looking For, wrote this short essay, containing some impressions from her book tour. lê is highly sensitive to details pictorial and sensational.  Her book is vivid.  The characters, their bodies, their emotions, and the landscapes—neighborhoods, memories, dreams—in which they move, are all so easy to see. The story is...

Dan Nadel on BOYS
Picturebox mogul Dan Nadel on Joan Reidy and Ron Regé Jr.’s Boys: NADEL: To my mind, Boys remains one of the most perfect comic books ever published. It is a single object that encapsulates an entire sensibility in 24 pages. The front cover — hand drawn but consciously designed; looking less like a comic and more like a zine of my dreams — opens to a scrappy title page and Regé and...

A Truly Charming Individual, Todd Glass
“I’m very computer illiterate, but once in a while I manage to get on there and read some stuff, always sorry that I did…” “They don’t want to talk, I don’t want to talk, but in the event of you need help, I’m here for you, but let’s not talk.” —Todd Glass, NNF611 (mp3) PS, @toddglass.

Rob Clough on ACME 19
I elevate ACME #19 above his other work because it felt like something that had built on all his previous comics and added layers of nuance and complexity. The character of Woody’s lover may be my all-time favorite of Ware’s, a truly tragic and disturbed woman whose pain Woody was completely oblivious to. I don’t think Ware was capable of writing such a character ten years ago....

Nice Kicks
Last nite I scoured th web for cheap sneakers, hoping I c’d find maybe some Vans knockoffs.  I’ve some fondness for the real thing, but I can’t justify paying so much.  I wore Charles H. Taylors thru much of my youth.  John Porcellino’s beautiful strip about Converse All-stars in Silly-Cat comes very close to my feelings.  But we all know those arnt what they used to be—no...
