Untitled Mixtape-themed-zine Project
Yesterday I put out a call for submissions to friend, internet ghost, and stranger alike for a forthcoming mixtape-themed zine. Here are further details/clarifications in the form of emails I wrote to potential contributors.
I’m so glad you are enthusiastic about this. The project will be so much better with you involved.
It isnt my intent to have 2 sets of commentary on each tape. I...

What I like about Pogo’s videos is that he cuts the video in the same manner as he cuts the record. Well, not really, but that’s the impression on the viewer. The first time I saw this technique was the video for the Wiseguys’ “Start The Commotion” (one of many “Big Beat” style records from 98/99 that I gotta admit I loved and still...

I remember hearing this song for the first time, when it was new, while driving on Veterans Parkway. I probably heard it on The Whip (98.3FM Farmer City—”somewhere between Memphis and Chicago” they call it; to me it was halfway between Champaign and where I lived. It wuz defnilly the coolest radio station I was in range of, and what...

Yo, check out Marc Bell’s Etsy shop. Books, minis, and even recently-discoverd copies of his old comic book, the Mojo Action Companion Unit. Wotta find! a real 90s “alternative” comic, of the kind that languishes on the rack way in the back of the comic book shop. You can score some real gems if you brave the dimness and the dust. Thanks to the weird distribution system comic...

Open Call for Submissions
Looking for song-by-song commentaries on 2 mix tapes (or ceedees or whatever), 1 made by you and 1 made by someone else, for a forthcoming zine, which will be read mainly by its contributors and some folks on my mailing list from the Definite Article days. Payment is in copies (the number is negotiable). Write for further guidelines.
Come on now. This could be cool.

Spend some serious time with Stephen Cysewski’s photo/travel site. It’s huge, confoundingly organized, and it’s great.

Drawings by John Kenn…mostly monsters…Lovecraftian entities or northern-European-feeling antlered beasties or gape-mothed wormish blobs which kind of remind me of Vermicious knids. Via Boing Boing.

Comix & Zeens Haul from Kigore Books
Saturday afternoon I stopped by Kilgore Books, by far Denver’s finest comic book shop, an’ it’s also a used book store—maybe not Denver’s finest but pretty fine. I can’t get out of there without spending some money. Here’s what I got this time, in order from biggest to smallest roughly (roughly) cause that’s how I have them stackd up:

I don't hate you, and I don't think you hate me.
Free of its context, this panel becomes universal. Who has not written this letter to someone, if only in their head?
